GS1 Connect 2017 Highlights
Nearly 1,300 thought leaders, industry innovators, GS1 Standards experts, and trading partners gathered in Las Vegas for GS1 Connect® 2017 to collaborate for business excellence. This year’s event explored the increasingly complex and dynamic challenges and opportunities facing organizations across industries. It featured provocative keynotes, engaging industry sessions, opportunities to meet with and learn from trading partners, and the dynamic Standardsville Exhibit Area.

In his opening remarks, GS1 US President and CEO, Bob Carpenter, encouraged attendees to use their time at GS1 Connect 2017 to dig deep into their challenges, identifying root causes versus symptoms, and then building action plans for moving forward with confidence.

Mr. McKelvey, an inventor, entrepreneur, and author best known for co-creating the revolutionary payments company, Square, shared his Silicon Valley approach to problem-solving, innovation, and a concept he calls “unlearning.” He showed attendees why success in business today means relinquishing old rules and behaviors and how learning agility can drive success in an uncertain, unpredictable, and constantly evolving business environment.

Katie Linendoll
Technology Expert and Emmy Award-Winning Producer “Chic Geek”

Ms. Linendoll, a technology guru who regularly lends her expertise to a variety of platforms, including the TODAY Show, CNN, Fox News, HLN, and Popular Science, shared her thoughts on becoming “future proof” during the closing keynote. This includes applying the latest technological breakthroughs to advance innovation, the role of data as a foundation for business growth, and how industry leaders must embrace the host of opportunities that come with evolving technology.
Inaugural GS1 US Excellence Awards
Siobhan O’Bara, Senior Vice President, Industry Engagement & Services, recognized the winners of the inaugural GS1 US 2017 Excellence Awards. A new addition to the conference for 2017, the GS1 US Excellence Awards recognized organizations and individuals for their achievements in implementing GS1 Standards and identifying best practices that transform business processes and drive innovation across all industries.
The GS1 US 2017 Excellence Award categories and winners were:

- GS1 US 2017 Innovation Award – REI CO-OP and Coca-Cola North America
- GS1 US 2017 Small/Mid-Size Business Excellence Award – Tegu and Upper Lakes Foods
- Roger Milliken Career Achievement Award – Ken Traub, Posthumously
