Blockchain… Fad or Future

A World Economic Forum report predicts that by 2025, 10 percent of GDP will be stored on blockchains or blockchain-related technology. Hype phase aside, knowing what blockchain and its variants are, and are not, is a question that must be addressed. Why such hype and why are distributed, decentralized ledgers so important?
